Kalamazoo-rific Autumn Foods Coming Your Way

Happy Fall, PFC Peeps!

As the weather changes, we've got some fun, Kalamazoo-rific autumn foods coming your way.

First of all, in produce:

  • Local, Organic Squash - Cinzori Organic Farms is keeping us flush with all the colors of autumn squash, all $1.99 per pound.
  • Local and Local, Organic Apples - We source our apples from several local farms:
    • Molter Organic Family Orchards - Aaron and Kari are sending us Red Delicious, Gala and Fuji apples from Watervliet.
    • Schultz Fruitridge Farms - From Mattawan, the Schultz family is growing a growing list of local apple options: Golden Delicious, Gala, Honeycrisp, Fuji, and...MCINTOSH! Yay for Michigan apples!!
  • Local and Local, Organic Salads and Greens -
    • Birdsong Farms - Laurie grows the BEST kale! We carry her Curly Green and Lacinato Kale, as well as Collards, and Fennel bulbs.
    • Fitz's Farms - We source great local lettuces from the fine folks at Fitz's: Green Bibb and Spring Mix are on the docket for this week.
  • We also have lots of other fun items you'll want to check out: pomegranates, local pears, paw paws, super-sweet local watermelons, and so much more.

Next, you'll want to try the delicious baked goods coming out of the PFC Deli every weekday morning. Natasha is in early baking up muffins of all sorts (check out our Facebook poll to give input on your flavors). We have your regular favorites, and we're adding pies, cheesecakes, cookies (naturally colored pumpkin sugar cookies!!!).

Finally, we're lucky this week to have Lindsey Parrish, a WMU Dietetics Internship Program intern, putting several active demos together. Come in Wednesday and Friday, 11am - 2pm, and see her preparing Pumpkin Pie Hummos and Broccoli Quinoa Salad, and grab a taste and a recipe card while you're at it.

Thanks so much for being part of PFC! We hope to see you soon!

Chris
