Meeting Minutes Archive

PFC is a consumer cooperative; this means we are owned by our customers. Our owners fill a nine-seat board of directors from among their ranks

Board Meeting Agenda

Interested in visiting our board meeting? Check out the agenda here. Depending on holidays, our meetings are on the first Monday of the month from 7-9pm at PFC (507 Harrison Street, Kalamazoo).

The role of the Board is to establish a vision for the future of the Co-op and govern the cooperative towards these ends. At People's, our Board governs via our By-Laws and our Policies. the Board also provides fiduciary and management oversight.

Our Ends Policy guides the organization in the decisions we make - from the products on the shelves to engagement in our community.

The general manager regularly reports on PFC's progress toward achieving our Ends. See Ends report here

August 2016 Board Summary

At the August board meeting, the Board of Directors re-capped the Annual Meeting which was held in June at the Night Market. We thought it was a great event overall, and came up with several ways to make next year's event event better. If you have feedback on the Annual Meeting, we'd love to hear it! Please email our Media & Communications Coordinator. We reviewed the PFC financial reports from the second quarter of 2016, and enjoyed hearing an update on PFC Markets. We also discussed board perpetuation. The board is always seeking new board members - if you are interested, contact board vice-president Chris Moore

July 2015 Board Summary

At the July board meeting, the board voted to approve a patronage rebate, which will return some of the profits from 2014 back to owners (based on owners' purchases during 2014), part in cash, and the rest in special shares that will be paid out in the future.  We were very excited to hear about the Anti-Racism Transformation Team's action plan and strategic next steps.  Big thanks to the Transformation Team for the time and energy they are putting into this important work!

March 2015 Board Summary

The March board meeting was an exciting one. We got an update about the ongoing work of the anti-racism Transformation Team and their continued training; we heard from Rachelle about Local+, which has fantastic momentum. Chris Dilley reported on the efforts to differentiate the Co-op in Kalamazoo, which also seems to be working well and we’re all excited about the push toward livable wages at the Co-op. Q4 financials show that we have just under 2,700 owners (wow!) and nearly $1million in community investments! We’re so grateful to be serving Kalamazoo, and looking always to meet our Ends.

February 2015 Board Summary

One of the big topics of discussion at February board meeting was the upcoming elections. We have eight candidates running for three open spots on the board. There will also be several proposed bylaw changes on the ballot, including a change that will make online voting available next year.

We need voter participation - at least 10% of owners need to vote in order to make the election valid, but we're hoping for much more than that! So Co-op owners, be on the lookout for your next Coop Scoop newsletter in early March with the election materials enclosed, or pick up a ballot in the store.  We have until the annual meeting on March 21 to cast our votes.

The election results will be announced at the annual meeting, where we will also celebrate PFC's 2014 and have small group discussion time where we get to hear from you, our community! It's going to be a great party, complete with food, drinks and music.  Hope to see you there.

Let's set new records for voter participation numbers this year.  Take the time to read the candidates' statements and proposed bylaw changes (available soon), and VOTE VOTE VOTE!
